DUTCH – Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones
DUTCH COMPLETE (Regenerous Labs) RRP £287
This is the most advanced hormone test we have come across. It has an extensive profile of 35 different hormones including melatonin, sex, and adrenal hormones with metabolites. It can also be used for preconception testing. For women this test is typically done on day 19, 20, or 21 in the cycle to be able to properly assess luteal phase progesterone and oestrogen, plus the metabolism of several sex hormones. Low progesterone levels for example often lead to reduced chance of implantation and increased risk of miscarriage, whereas low oestrogen may prevent ovulation. However, the hormone pattern throughout the month varies and for some women who have tried to become pregnant for an extended period of time (trying for at least six months), it may be necessary to also do the DUTCH Cycle Mapping test.
DUTCH Cycle Mapping with Sex and Adrenal Metabolism (REGENEROUS LABS) RRP £455
This test is a combination of DUTCH Complete and DUTCH Cycle Mapping test. The Cycle Mapping test best benefit women with infertility issues, irregular cycles, or no menstrual bleeding due to removal of or partial hysterectomy. This test is useful to provide information about where in the cycle the oestrogen and progesterone surges are and how long they last for. Quantification of oestrogen and progesterone may also be useful in determining when ovulation occurs. Both timing and quantity of sex hormones are important for fertility. This test is included in the Platinum package.
As the name suggests, all DUTCH tests are urine tests made in the comfort of your own home. Note that the Cycle Mapping test requires samples to be collected on every single day of your full cycle.
Advanced Thyroid (UK Lab) RRP £249
A low functioning thyroid can reduce the ability to become pregnant, induce weight gain, tiredness and depression. Low thyroid function is much more common in women than in men and is often a useful test to have if you have symptoms such as tiredness, cold hands and feet, sensitive to the cold (when no one else is), low libido, puffiness in the face (often around the eyes), muscle aches, dry skin and hair, depression, or thinning eye brows. This advanced thyroid test includes: TSH, free T3, free T4, total T4, thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO Ab), thyroglobulin antibody, reverse T3, T3 uptake, and TSH receptor (TRAB).
This test requires phlebotomy which you will have to arrange for yourself. Samples must be sent on the same day as they are drawn (Monday to Thursday only). We are able to offer a slightly more expensive alternative which is available as a finger prick test, however, this test is not as comprehensive in its profile since it does not look at reverse T3, T3 uptake and TRAB.
FSH AND LH (MEDICHECKS) RRP £49
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulates the production of eggs. A FSH test is usually performed when reproductive disorders or PCOS are suspected. A luteinising hormone (LH) test is often performed in conjunction with FSH to aid in diagnosis of infertility and PCOS. Raised LH levels may indicate the absence of ovulation or confirm menopause. This test complements the DUTCH and Thyroid panels when investigating infertility and PCOS.
A simple finger-prick blood sample is all that is needed in order to do this test. You can do at home at any time and then mail it back to the lab as soon as possible. If you are unsure of how to take a finger-prick sample, just check out the video from Medichecks on the right.
